The Babas were called the Straits Chinese or Peranakans. Their culture is derived from Traditional Chinese with Malay influence. They belong to their own unique community and Malacca is the original birthplace of this clan. Their beautiful homes which contains their heritage structure are located a short distance from Geographer Cafe.

有故事的咖啡館

當新新人類遇上古老的房子﹐將發生什麼樣的故事﹖

199989日﹐大馬第一個擁有個人網頁的咖啡館在馬六甲海山街誕生﹐一伙年輕人懷著理想、創意、大膽及滿腦子奇怪的想法﹐將街道角落處一間痕跡斑駮殘究古老的店屋﹐改裝成一間文化大融合的咖啡館﹐在馬六甲的街頭﹐等著想歇腳的旅人、無腳的路人或想聽故事的人﹐相聚一堂﹐把酒言歡或品嘗濃郁的咖啡香。

在這裡﹐住著一本留言簿﹐只要曾在這裡留下足跡的人﹐都可留下文字﹐記錄路過這裡的一段記憶﹐形成一個龐大、廣闊而無聲的聯絡網﹐接觸世界的新視窗。這是一個歇腳的好地方﹐走了那麼多地方的你﹐想必也累了吧﹖何妨停下觀光的腳步﹐到這裡歇一歇還要走遍大江南北天下美景的雙足﹖

地理學家咖啡館 (GEOGRAPHER CAFÉ) 是這間咖啡館的名字﹐從裡到外﹐色彩階以強烈的鮮黃、鮮橙、大紅、大藍和青﹐反映出剛毅的個性卻又隱含讓人眷戀的悠閑。它的前世﹐是一篇篇平凡卻動聽的歷史﹐它的今生﹐是正在創造及收集故事的記事本。

這裡的咖啡豆﹐這裡的食物﹐以素食居多﹐還有西方的下酒小食。館裡是啤酒天堂﹐也是咖啡飄香的空間﹐兩種味道混合在一起﹐散發出一種苦苦的味道﹐滿室的笑聲卻映出悲喜人間的大情大性。

館裡的每個角落都有一個名字﹐坐在長凳倚靠欄杆看著斜陽的走廊﹐就叫夕陽走廊﹔流水淙淙的天井就叫熱帶雨林﹔窗戶四開的一樓木板叫探戈樓( TANGO FLOOR) ﹔後部樓上的小露臺則有個很童話又富寓意的名字-小王子﹔另外還有一個叫隱身在樓上的角落圖書館。。。。。。

館名源自 地圖師之夢

每一個名字的背後都有一個故事﹐就連館名也不例外。話說它的主人正苦思一個讓人印象深刻﹐能體現它的特色又不落俗套的名字時﹐腦中浮現的不是字典中所翻查過的文字﹐而是一副泛黃的古地圖和一本<地圖師之夢>的書。

別小看這本書的來歷﹐它可是長踞美國暢銷書排行榜﹐已發行十余種語文版本的紅書。書的主角是16世紀一個隱居的修士﹐由探險家、朝聖者、旅人及商賈等遊歷世界時﹐所帶回的奇異、荒誕的故事。然後再將這些故事繪製成一副承載世界意義的地圖。

這樣一本的斗室探究大千世界形貌﹐構筑一座寓言城市的書﹐恰恰體現了地理學家咖啡館本身所帶有的特色﹐也是業者所要打造的休閒天堂---在一個小小的空間裡﹐迎接世界各地的朋友相聚一堂﹐共話天南海北人生百態。
